Poles, Potty, Progress.....

Things are starting to get off the ground.  We have our temporary electrical pole for construction.  And yes, we got our Port-A-Jon today.  The dirtwork continues.  David is having to haul lots and lots of dirt for the pad.  Possible forms in place by the end of the week.

We are excited to be going on a shop-til-we-drop adventure on Thursday in Dallas.  We will be going to the warehouses to pick out flooring, trim, fixtures, widows, paint, etc.  As much as we can do in one day.  I guess that means we had better get our act together and be ready to make some important decisions.

It's Official.....

It's official... we are owned by a bank for the rest of our lives!  No seriously, we are so excited to have completed closing today.

And today marks the official goundbreaking of our new home.  They have started dirtwork with a temporary driveway to get equipment in.

Will keep regular updates coming on our progress.  Expected completion is 8 months.  Of course mother nature may have different plans.

Closing Tomorrow!

Finally.... its is all coming together.  Closing at Pilgrim's Bank tomorrow.  As an aside, the amount we have to pay at closing is around 50 times less than we were told elsewhere.  And yes, I said 50!

The pictures above are the stakes marking our driveway.  The plan is driveway and gates first while the foundation is getting ready so that the construction materials can be locked behind a fence.  Will start updatng more frequently as things start happening.  We have chosen stone, stucco color, fence design, and gate.  We are excited to go to Dallas with James at ACH on June 2nd to make further selections.

The Beginning

Well friends, we are about to embark on the building of our dream home.  I will catch you up to this point.  Last year we decided that we would rather build on some acreage than the lots we have in the Country Club Phase 3.  We purchased 22 acres of land from Dr. Hester.  The land is beautiful with a 2 acre lake.  It is located near Point North on Harts Bluff Road.  We hired an architect, Kelly Grimes in Sulphur Springs.  We simply made a list of things we wanted and she took it from there.  She is awesome.  There have been very few changes from her original vision as it was exactly what we wanted.  After some bumps along the road with one of the banks, we have secured financing from Pilgrim's Bank.  They have been great and really show interest in supporting their community.  We are awaiting a final closing date.  It should be in the next 1-2 weeks.  As soon as we close, construction will begin immediately.  The foundation has been engineered and the building permit acquired.  I hope to keep this blog updated with pictures and info as we go through this process.  I have included some before pictures of the land today.  And yes, it needs brushhogged.
